Turn off machines and power strips when you leave a room; when going on vacation, unplug machines - even in standby mode, machines continue to draw energy if left plugged in.
Conserve energy by turning off the lights in rooms you aren't using.
Use your dishwasher and washing machine only with full loads.
Dry one load of laundry after another, as the dryer is already hot and ready to go.
Cool your apartment by keeping your blinds, drapes, or shades closed during the summer.
On the flipside, open those blinds, drapes, or shades in the winter and let the warm sunshine in.
Turn down your thermostat during times you aren't home.
Use reusable shopping bags when grocery shopping.
Don't set the thermostat at a colder setting than normal when you turn on your air conditioner. Your home will not cool any faster.
Use kitchen, bath, and other exhaust fans sparingly. These fans can blow away a house full of heated or cooled air in an hour.
Use ceiling fans in conjunction with your air conditioner to keep the home cool.
When using an oven or a burner, turn it down before the cooking is done. The oven or range will stay hot after you turn it off.
Turn on the oven light to check your food rather than opening the door and releasing hot air.

Purchase foods in bulk or concentrate.
Avoid products that are neither reusable nor easily recyclable.
At work, make two-sided photocopies.
Use cloth towels in the kitchen rather than paper towels.
Stop unwanted junk mail by removing your name from mailing lists.
Leave a coffee mug or two at work and avoid using disposable cups.
Take your grocery bags back to the market and reuse them.
Take care of your belongings to help them last longer. In particular, try to keep your car on a regular maintenance and tune-up schedule.
Use products that are made to be reused, such as cloth towels, sponges, glass dishes, and metal eating utensils (rather than paper and plastic), rechargeable batters, etc.
Drop off your used motor oil, antifreeze, and car batteries at places that recycle automotive wastes.
Donate clothing, books, toys, appliances and furniture to charitable organizations.
